Getting Help

Help is always available at the computer. You can get full online Help through the Help option.

Note:
Your library may allow you to send a reference question to a librarian by email. Your library may also offer live online virtual reference. For more information, see "Contacting Online Reference Librarians".

Open and use online Help

Follow these steps to get help with using the online catalog.

  1. Select Help on the menu bar.

    The Help page is displayed.

  2. For help with a common topic, click the topic link.

    A page with appropriate information opens. You may need to scroll the page to see all the information. Click X in the upper right corner of the Help window to close the page.

  3. To see the entire Help file, click Help Contents.

    The Help window opens.

Tip:
The table of contents displays help topics as they would be organized in a book. The table of contents shows how topics are related to each other, and lets you move from topic to topic.

  1. To use the table of contents (left side of the Help window), click a topic link.

    The topic is displayed in the details pane (right side of the Help window).

Tip:
The index displays help topics in alphabetical order. You may also find useful cross-references and alternate terms.

  1. To use the index, follow these steps:
    1. Click Index at the top or bottom of any page in the details pane.

      The index appears in the details pane.

    2. Click any index link to display a topic.
  2. To navigate through a displayed topic, use these controls:
    • Use the scroll bar to scroll through the topic.
    • Click links in the topic information to display related topics.
    • Click Previous or Next at the top or bottom of the page to display the previous or next topics.
  3. To leave online Help, click X in the upper right corner of the Help window.

    The window closes.
